About Lucy
For many, the catalyst for seeking therapy is the realization that trying to handle their suffering alone isn’t working.
Reaching this point can be an isolating experience, often evoking feelings of, “No one gets me,” “I’m too much,” or, “Why am I like this?” During some of the most painful periods of my life thus far, whether it was struggling with self esteem and body image as a child or navigating divorce as a young adult, there was a common theme of feeling alone in my experience, even in the presence of supportive friends and family. With time, a lot of therapy, and a lot of studying, I’ve come to believe that the root of that unshakeable feeling of aloneness is being disconnected from the self. When we engage in the practice of understanding our own minds, we can offer ourselves the grounding we seek.
I believe that psychotherapy provides the opportunity to (over time) access your most authentic self, and I believe that when your authentic self is seen without judgment and held with care by a trusted person (the therapist), powerful change can happen. Being that trusted person is a responsibility that I take very seriously, and I’ve committed myself to a lifetime of studying people and the therapeutic relationship.
Background
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in creative writing and literature from Bard College and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Simmons University. I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including the restaurant industry, landscape and gardening, education, several nonprofits, and private practice. I feel very fortunate to have now landed in a career that suits me and nurtures different aspects of myself: the writer with a deep appreciation for story telling, the former server/bartender with no judgment and a dry sense of humor, and the person who felt at odds with herself for a long time before finding relief.
If you’re reading this because you’re considering starting therapy (again or for the first time), it would be my honor to join you wherever you’re at.
