Other Specialities

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues

I have extensive experience working with LGBT clients. Because of heterosexist social pressures, limited research on LGBT issues, and a disturbing absence of LGBT focused treatment modalities and resources, LGBT clients may feel that their issues are unmanageable, untreatable, and the result of the “gay condition” in today’s world. Together we can work on your specific needs with an understanding that there are stressors and issues unique to LGBT and that you are not alone in your struggle for normalcy, mental health, and fulfillment.

Regarding transgender issues, I have worked with many transgender and gender variant clients in transgender counseling in various stages of transition and acceptance. This work has been some of the most rewarding of my career, and I consider the opportunity to work with transgender and gender variant clients a wonderful privilege.

Sexuality is one of the most dynamic topics in counseling and one of the least understood topics in social science research. In my studies at the University of North Texas, I focus on sexual identity development, sexual issues in counseling, and on the interaction of sexuality and spirituality. Possible issues related to sexuality include but are not limited to: sexual identity development concerns, sexual dysfunction, sexual dissatisfaction, sex addiction, and sexual abuse/trauma. Whether you are experiencing sexual issues and need individual or couples counseling, I can assist you.

Mood Disorders

In addition to the specialties listed above, I am qualified to treat a multitude of issues including depression, anxiety, adjustment, grief, attachment, and trauma.
